Example of Sandpicture creation

Sandplay is a therapeutic approach that builds on a child's natural inclination to play.

The use of sand and figurines in therapy is an effective way of helping children who are experiencing a wide range of  emotional, behavioural, learning and social problems.

Through Sandplay children can create, understand and change their personal world. In the "free and protected space of the tray"*, Sandplay can provide the opportunity to resolve conflicts, express feelings, develop problem-solving skills, and assist clients in discovering new ways of relating to themselves, family and others.

This process may be verbal or  non-verbal therapeutic approach and is ideal for many children with different verbal abilities. It is an approach that is also valued by adult clients. [* Dora Kalff: developer of Sandplay]
